Several articles and some unpublished research work on him have been written. It would appear that because of his close links with the rise of Afrikaner nationalism and his relative eclecticism, he is a controversial architect. According to Prof FCL Bosman (N Pilman: Moerdyk research papers) Moerdyk was an obsessional person, his three main obsessions being his church, his nation and his farm. Moerdyk was born at Nylstroom in the Waterberg District, the eldest of nine children.
