Jean Pierre discovered her love for netball as a teenager, training at home with just a net in her backyard. She had high hopes of representing Trinidad and Tobago in the international arena, and by 1963, she became one of only four players to be chosen from T&T for the inaugural World Netball Championships. She went on to compete in the 1967, 1971, 1975, and 1979 World Netball Championships, making her the only player to participate in all five world championships since the first one took place in 1963.
By the time of the 1979 World Netball Championships, which was held in Port of Spain, Jean Pierre was the Captain of the national team. Here, she led her team to victory by scoring the most goals, and receiving the highest number of points in any world series. Her achievement made Trinidad and Tobago the first country to both host and win the World Netball Championships, and Jean was named one of the top 10 players in the world.

The Trinidad and Tobago national netball team is known as the Calypso Girls named for the music that was born from that island nation has made history in the world of netball.
