THE BAOBAB LAND- LEGALLY SEPARATING THE TRUTH FROM LIES

A lot has been said about the Baobab land saga over the past few weeks/ months and I thought that I should do a bit of investigations to legally dispel or separate the truth from the lies.

From what I have gathered so far, Mr. and Mrs. H.J Van Blerk came to Zambia in and settled in modern day Livingstone. Some time in , the couple moved to Lusaka where they acquired a piece of land called Eureka Farms. They got title deeds for their property on the 15th of December When Mr. Van Blerk died in , he passed on this property to his son J.H Van Blerk. In the s when the year title deeds were introduced, Mr. J.H Van Blerk also renewed his title.

However, when the government built the Great North Road, Eureka Farm was split into two, with what is now called Kafue road. When Mr. J.H Van Blerk died in , he left the farm to his two sons. One of the sons, H.J Van Blerk got the part of the farm on the eastern side of Kafue road and maintained the name Eureka Farms. The other son, J.F Van Blerk had the land west of the Kafue road and called it Msekese Farm, popularly known as the Baobab land. The Van Blerk family still resides on these two pieces of land to date.
