Srinivasa Ramanujan, an Indian mathematician, was born Dec. 22,   Born into a Brahmin family with little means, living south of Madras in southern India, Ramanujan did well enough in school, until he discovered mathematics, which soon captured all his attention.  He began to neglect all other subjects except math, to the detriment of his schooling, where he soon lost scholarships, as he failed all exams except mathematical ones.  His interest lay in number theory and equations, and such topics as infinite series and prime numbers.  Despite his setbacks at school, he received encouragement from teachers and early employers, for he was clearly a mathematical genius.

His mother arranged a marriage for him in ; his bride was only 10 years old and did not move in with Ramanujan until later.  Some of his patrons found him a job in as a clerk at the Port of Madras, where he could do the required accounting work quickly and had time for his mathematical pursuits.  He had discovered a handbook by G.S. Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyenger (December 22, – April 26, ) was an Indianmathematician. His father's name was K. Srinivasa Iyengar and his mother's name was Komalatammal. On 1st October Ramanujan was enrolled at local school. He had no formal training in mathematics. However, he has made a large contribution to number theory, infinite series and continued fraction.

After getting his degree at Cambridge, Ramanujan did his own work. He compiled over identities and equations in his life. Some of the identities were found in his “lost notebook”. When the notebook was discovered, mathematicians proved almost all of Ramanujan's work. His discoveries have led to many advancements in mathematics. His formulae are now being used in crystallography and string theory.

In , Ramanujan's birthday was made "National Mathematics Day" by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.[1]

Ramanujan was brought into the world in Dissolve, Madras Administration, English India (presently Tamil Nadu, India), on 22 December His dad, Kuppuswamy Srinivasa Iyengar, was a representative in a material trader's shop, and his mom, Komalathamma, was a housewife. Ramanujan was a splendid understudy, and he showed an early fitness for math. In , Ramanujan entered Pachaiyappa's School in Mad
